James and his team of builders were asked to carry out an extension to a listed subterranean stone fronted summerhouse built into the hill side overlooking Lyme Bay.
The back walls had to be strong enough to retain the earth behind it and the client wanted to build something energy efficient and sustainable so we decided to use NUDURA Insulated Concrete Formwork.
This system easily provided everything we needed and is well suited to this type of build.
An underfloor heating system was installed that was powered by ground source heat pipes in the garden. The underfloor heating pipes were fixed directly to the steel mesh of the raft foundation and the concrete was poured on top then power floated and polished thus providing the foundation and finished floor in one.
A green roof was installed over the whole of the building so it blends in to the hill side as it did before work started with just the addition of three contemporary roof lights and the brick chimney which was an original feature.
